LibelluleMonde: finding its niche in the aeronautics industry

LibelluleMonde
  • Summary
  • Organization : LibelluleMonde
  • Region: Greater Montréal
  • Program: Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP)
  • The funding allowed the compagny to increase its production and enhance its productivity by expanding its plant, purchasing new equipment and implementing a marketing strategy for the U.S. and Asia.

In 2018, LibelluleMonde will be celebrating 25 years of operation. Founded in Saint Jérôme by entrepreneur Stéphanie Lemieux, the company, which produces and installs aircraft coverings, has come a long way since its first contract. Today it is one of the leaders in its field in Canada.

Products that set the company apart from the competition

Right from the outset, LibelluleMonde was able to find a special niche for its line of products designed for the aeronautics industry. The company has consistently provided its clients with certified product kits and a high value-added service line.

The certificates in question—Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs)—are issued by aeronautics authorities and are indisputable. The STCs set LibelluleMonde apart from its competitors. In 2018, these certificates will be accepted throughout America, Europe and Asia, thus opening up these markets for this Quebec company.

Challenges facing a woman entrepreneur

But let’s go back to the beginning for a moment. What led a woman from a region of Quebec to become an entrepreneur? In Ms. Lemieux’ case, she was very attracted by the challenge and by the research, motion, change, innovation, adrenaline, discovery and learning. As she puts it, “the most important thing is to go ahead, take risks and focus, not on money but on the outcome.”

All the same, choosing to become an entrepreneur is not without its challenges. And if you’re a woman? “Being an entrepreneur involves the same issues, regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman,” promptly notes Ms. Lemieux. And she’s not at a loss for examples: finding and retaining skilled autonomous workers; ensuring strong, controlled growth; standardizing and customizing the company’s products; coming up with innovative products through diversification; understanding and setting up business in different countries; perfecting the company’s methods; streamlining procedures in a world of standards and regulations; and remaining competitive while providing greater value-added.

These are just some of the challenges that LibelluleMonde has met in order to achieve its current success. Did you recognize some of yours?
