A savoury success story like no other!
Located in Morin-Heights at the heart of the Laurentians, Gourmet du Village has been rising like a star since 1982 and now holds pride of place among fine gourmet food and tableware aficionados in Canada and the United States.
Gourmet du Village is the brainchild of Linda and Mike Tott. After their first creation, the “Pot-Pourri Village” gift spice package, came a second, a marinade, followed by a third, a fourth and some 400 others.
The Gourmet du Village team consists of 40 or so full-time employees, and 60 or more during peak periods. President Mike Tott, co-founder of the company, talks about family: “The atmosphere at Gourmet du Village is more like what you’d see in a family than in your average workplace.” Here, Anglophones and Francophones mingle as they have in Morin-Heights since the early Irish and French-Canadian settlers founded Morin township, which became the City of Morin-Heights in 1855. “They get along well, help each other out, have known each other for a long time, care about each other . . .and they’re proud! Just like a real family!”
Looking for a gift?
Strolling along 3rd Avenue in Val-d’Or, Saint-Joseph Street in Quebec City, Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles or Laurier Avenue in Ottawa, don’t be surprised if you come across various Gourmet du Village products, whether a dip, seasonings, a beer-can chicken roaster or a brie pot. Come spring 2012, Morinheighters and visitors will be able to buy them on the spot, since Gourmet du Village will be opening its new La Grange complex on Meadowbrook Street, which will house a boutique, a restaurant, a ready-to-eat product counter and even a cooking school.

There is no shortage of projects at Gourmet du Village. A strategy to intensify its commercialization efforts in the United States is currently under way. Canada Economic Development, a partner in the development of the agri-food industry in the Laurentians, is supporting this initiative, which will not only create jobs, but will also contribute to the reputation and international influence of Quebec’s know-how and art of gracious living.
