Laiterie Chagnon, in Waterloo, Montérégie, has been regaling clients with its dairy products since 1954. It is famous for its milk, cream, butter and lip-licking ice cream made with fresh cream!

Expanding, consolidating … and expanding some more!

Over the decades, to meet the growing demand, Laiterie Chagnon has increased its output and undergone successive waves of modernization.

Tons and tons….
Laiterie Chagnon has set itself the ambitious goal of reducing its natural gas consumption by 70% within two years, resulting in greenhouse gas emission (GHG) savings of 200 tons per year.

The year 2011 marked a milestone in the dairy’s evolution. The firm embarked on an important upgrading of its facilities calling for major investments. The goal was to expand sales outside Quebec. This change in orientation was an opportunity for the dairy to bring its facilities into compliance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency export requirements.

In the coming years, Laiterie Chagnon will focus on expanding markets, beginning with those within Canada and then moving on to markets beyond our borders―ideally in 2013.

Concern for the environment and sound management

panneau solaire
The solar panels will result in significant energy savings

Driven by a clear strategic vision, Laiterie Chagnon carried out several projects at the same time. Among other things, it committed to going green and installed a solar energy system in its production facility. An outside firm developed the solar panels according to the dairy’s needs. Laiterie Chagnon expects this system will result in significant energy savings.

To further reduce its ecological footprint, the firm has also upgraded its manufacturing processes, changed its heating system and modernized its infrastructures. It can take pride in being a forerunner in the industry. Canada Economic Development has helped fund several facets of this modernization plan.

Pioneering containers

Because butter….
To consolidate its market share, Laiterie Chagnon has developed a clarified butter that can be used at a higher cooking temperature than whole butter. It is sure to be popular with restaurant owners and star and amateur chefs alike!

Laiterie Chagnon has long collaborated with various organizations, including the Association des laiteries du Québec and Recyc-Québec, to improve its packaging. The dairy is a pioneer in this area: its ice cream and milk are sold in recyclable cardboard and plastic containers.

You can bet that Laiterie Chagnon has more ingenious and delectable surprises in store for us!
