Taimi Hydraulics’s story reads like a fairy tale. Indeed, who would have thought that an enterprise based in Saint-Prime, a town of fewer than 3,000 people in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, would be doing business around the world?

R-D key to growth

Taimi started operations as storm clouds were gathering over the forest industry. Like many other Quebec SMEs seeking to get an edge in a difficult context, Taimi Hydraulics banked on innovation to invent its revolutionary Swiwell^TM hydraulic swivel coupling.

Now, thanks to intensive research and development, Taimi boasts the best hydraulic swivel fittings available.

Enterprises in the forestry, mining, oil and construction sectors are unanimous in their praise of Taimi’s hydraulic swivelling couplings and their durability. Taimi’s hydraulic couplings are unlike any others on the market today and, with a lifespan 10 times greater than that of competing products, they are in high demand.

Taimi owes much of its success to the energy and ingenuity of Michel Taillon and Sébastien Tremblay, respectively President and General Manager of the firm. Betting on innovation, these two visionaries decided to design, develop and manufacture all of their products in the Saguenay–Lac-St-Jean. The company takes pride in acquiring 92% of its supplies in the region and 100% in Quebec.

Taimi products are becoming the standard in the heavy machinery industry. The quality and reliability of their components increase machine up-time, reduce operating expenses and make operations more cost effective. Designed with environmental protection in mind, Taimi couplings are more impervious than conventional bearing couplings, thereby reducing the risk of hydraulic fluid spills.

These characteristics are of course part and parcel of Taimi’s success: in 2008-2009, despite the recession, the company increased its sales by 22% over the previous year.

The pride of Saint-Prime, this leader in hydraulics will use the funding from Canada Economic Development to pursue its marketing efforts and raise awareness of Taimi excellence by exporting most of its output.
