Marketing the Track-O

Years of research and development went in the Track-O, a device invented and designed by Innovation Movex President Fabien Lavoie for the safe handling and moving of heavy objects on difficult surfaces or uneven terrain. This remote-controlled equipment is characterized by its easy-to-use design and exceptional efficiency.

A commercialization strategy that delivers

Lifting cart for heavy loads: Track-O

The story behind how Track-O came to be is anything but humdrum. When a serious back injury forced Fabien Lavoie to stop working a few years ago, no one could have guessed at the time that this imposed hiatus would lead to the hatching, development and materialization of an ingenious idea. Through sheer perseverance and determination, Fabien Lavoie founded Innovation Movex in 2002.

When the time came for the firm to bring its innovation to market, Canada Economic Development was on hand to lend its support by helping fund a commercialization strategy geared to the Canadian, U.S., Asian and European markets. Innovation Movex was thus able to develop promotional tools and website, take part in specialty trade fairs, hire a sales representative and cover the licensing and intellectual property registration costs for the various models of Track-O.

“Canada Economic Development’s support was critical to the growth of our company and enabled us to very quickly conquer new markets in a structured and organized way,” explained Fabien Lavoie.

Innovation Movex anticipates that, by 2012, 60% to 75% of its sales will come from outside Canada. The company also expects to create 11 new jobs on top of the five positions already in place and the 10 or so indirect jobs with its sub-contractors.

This dynamic young Shawinigan firm embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in the Mauricie region. Nearly 100 Track-O units are already manufactured and sold year each year to a client base that includes the likes of Hydro-Québec, the Société de transport de Montréal and the City of Oakland, California.
