A close-knit enterprise

Located in Boisbriand, DCM Aéronautique is a world-class subcontractor for such prestigious aircraft manufacturers as Bombardier, Boeing and Embraer.

Portion of a light aircraft on the groundThe enterprise, as close-knit as any family, was founded in 1987 by Raymond Déry, who has since been joined by his three children: Danielle, Yves and Christian. "My father passed down his deep attachment to aeronautics to us. He himself worked in the sector for 50 years. It's always been a part of our lives and we're now proud to carry on in the business we watched being built," Danielle Déry explained. The Déry family’s values have clearly left their imprint on the corporate values of DCM: a human approach to management that focuses on excellence, teamwork and respect, both with respect to clients and to staff. It is an approach that seems to be paying off: DCM Aéronautique has seen its staff force grow by 82% in the past eight years.

A shift in the right direction

When the company’s founder retired, the new guard decided to bring in two managers with experience in the aerospace sector to help develop new markets. Mario Lépine and René Plamondon persuaded management that DCM should be devoting as much energy to the manufacture of aircraft parts (flight equipment) and to ground equipment.

"My father passed down his deep attachment to aeronautics to us. He himself worked in the sector for 50 years. It's always been a part of our lives and we're now proud to carry on in the business we watched being built," Danielle Déry explained.

It was at that point that DCM turned to Canada Economic Development for assistance in carrying out its productivity enhancement project. A financial contribution from the Agency enabled the firm to acquire new strategic equipment which, in hindsight, was clearly the right thing to do. Within four years, sales had climbed by 97%, with the manufacture of ground equipment and aircraft parts holding equal weight.

DCM Aéronautique teamDCM Aéronautique was recognized for its trademark excellence and the outstanding quality of all of its management operations when, in 2008, it was named Company of the Year by the Association québécoise de l’aérospatiale.

So what’s in the cards for the future? DCM Aéronautique plans to continue making the most of its partnerships—like the one it enjoys with Canada Economic Development—to maintain its position as a favoured supplier of many aeronautics contractors and integrators.
