Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) supports infrastructure projects in the aim of enhancing citizens’ quality of life, improving the quality of the environment and fostering the economic growth of communities.

The MRIF is jointly administered by the Agency and Quebec's Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions, which is the lead player in the program. Projects carried out under this initiative will total $700 million in overall investments.

MRIF specifications

Start date: July 18, 2005.

Agreement end date: March 31, 2012.

Project approval deadline: December 31, 2008.

$231.899 million federal funding allocation, broken down as follows:

  • $140 million for green municipal infrastructure (drinking water and wastewater);
  • $1.950 million for knowledge development;
  • $89.949 million for local or regional development support infrastructure.
