Government of Canada grants financial support to Outaouais forestry sector
Gatineau, Quebec, January 24, 2012 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Réseau des entreprises du secteur du bois de l’Outaouais (RESBO) has been granted financial assistance to implement a strategic plan for the commercialization of secondary and tertiary processed hardwood products.
“By lending its financial support to value-added processing in the wood sector, the Government of Canada is also encouraging commercialization of these products while illustrating its commitment to furthering job creation and economic wealth,” says Minister Lebel.
This project arose from a need expressed by a group of 22 value-added processors from the Outaouais region that joined forces through RESBO to present a common brand image. The association will focus on customer service and guaranteed quality in an effort to break into new markets in the National Capital region. RESBO has determined that by grouping various enterprises together, it can gain access to the major contractors’ market and better stand up to the competition.
This $116,416 non-repayable contribution has been granted through Canada Economic Development’s Community Diversification program. A total of nearly $315,000 has been allocated to the project by its various financial backers.
