Government of Canada grants $95,000 in funding to Les motoneigistes du Memphrémagog Inc. snowmobiling club

Magog, Quebec, March 7, 2010 – The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Mégantic–L’Érable, today announced that the snowmobiling club Les motoneigistes du Memphrémagog Inc. has been awarded $95,000 in non-repayable funding through the Community Diversification program for the purchase of a new snow grooming machine. Requiring an overall investment of nearly $190,000, this project will enable the club to ensure better quality trails to snowmobilers in the area.

“Canada Economic Development is lending its financial assistance to this Les motoneigistes du Memphrémagog initiative because snowmobiling is an important source of tourism revenue for the Estrie region. Improving the network can only help Estrie better maintain its position as one of the province’s premium winter tourist destinations”, stated Minister Paradis.

Founded in 1972, Les motoneigistes du Memprémagog is a non-profit organization with some 210 members and 25 volunteers. The club is responsible for the upkeep of 85 kilometres of snowmobiling trails located mainly in the Memphrémagog RCM, including the 45-kilometre Trans-Québec trail No. 55 that runs between the region and the United States.
