Government of Canada grants $300,000 in funding to MultiCorpora for implementation of commercialization strategy

Gatineau, Quebec, June 18, 2009 – Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister responsible for the Outaouais region and Member of Parliament for Pontiac, today announced that the firm MultiCorpora will receive $300,000 in repayable funding from the Government of Canada to introduce its MultiTrans 4.4 software to United States and European markets.

MultiCorpora, a language technology firm, specializes in the design and development of translation, text analysis and multilingual terminology management software solutions. The company, whose clients include language service providers, business corporations, governments and multilateral organizations, is seeking to expand into new geographical markets.

“Supporting commercialization is a priority for the Government of Canada. It is an area of action essential to the economic development of the Outaouais region. By assisting companies in their efforts to export, notably through the development and implementation of commercialization strategies, our government is opening up doors to foreign markets and helping create jobs,” noted Minister Cannon.

Through this project, the result of nearly three years of research and development work, MultiCorpora hopes to create nine new jobs by the year 2010, adjust its flagship product to new target markets, forge foreign partnerships and alliances, produce promotional materials and undertake telemarketing activities. The Gatineau-based firm also intends to use the services of a special consultant to prospect for new market opportunities in Asia.

Language technology, along with agri-food processing, tourism and value-added wood processing, are considered promising growth sectors for the Outaouais. It is therefore in these priority areas that Canada Economic Development has decided to focus its development efforts in the region.

This funding has been awarded through Canada Economic Development’s Business and Regional Growth program.
